The Channel View Health Visiting Team

Health Visiting is a dynamic and innovative service that is aimed at the promotion of health and the prevention of ill health, contributing to individual and family health and social well being. Planned Health Visiting activities empower people to make health lifestyle choices.

The Health Visitors attached to Channel View Medical Practice are Linda Mitchell and Helen Davis-Cox.   We work autonomously, separately and also as part of a dynamic nursing team servicing the needs of the general practice population and the PCT population. We are dedicated to improving the health and well being of the practice population.

Linda Mitchell works mainly in the Teignmouth and Bishopsteignton areas and can be contacted on (01626) 773901

Helen Davis-Cox generally works in the Chudleigh and surrounding areas and can be contacted on (01626) 852222

If we are not available to speak to please feel free to leave a message and we will call you back as soon as we can

What do we do?

We mainly work (but not exclusively) with parents and children under the age of 5 years .

Examples of areas of work that we are involved in are:

  • Growth and general developmental assessments.

  • Managing behaviour problems, such as sleep, eating, soiling and bed wetting, temper tantrums, disruptive and aggressive behaviour etc.

  • Child protection issues (prevention, identification and management)

  • Weaning and general nutritional advice.

  • Giving advice on a whole range of Health Promotion activities, as appropriate to the individual, their needs and lifestyles.

  • Advice on how to access the most appropriate services for individual needs.

  • Support and general counselling for postnatal parents and many stressful problems

As Health Visitors we liaise with a wide range of other professional and voluntary groups of people, to the benefit of the individual client and the population as a whole.

Behaviour Problems

Behaviour problems such as sleep disturbances, feeding problems, difficulties with toilet training and temper tantrums, to name, just a few can make family life and parenting, frustrating and worrying.

There are a number of very effective methods of working with children and their families to overcome these problems, from simple methods that can be used at home, in support from your Health Visitor, to a referral to the local, specialist services.

Linda Mitchell and Helen Davis-Cox both have many years of experience in helping families overcome problems that are causing them distress, and through discussion with you and often your GP they will help design a package that best suits your personal family needs.
